Cross-Country Car Shipping FAQ

Below are answers to the most frequently asked questions we receive at My Auto Transport Company. From pricing to timing to safety, we’ve got you covered.

Have Questions About Shipping Your Car Cross-Country?

How does cross-country car shipping work?

We coordinate within our network of 8,500 fully licensed and insured carrier network registered with the FMCSA to transport your vehicle safely from pickup to destination. The CDL driver drives your car onto the transport truck and is delivered by a professional auto transport driver. These drivers are drug tested every six months as required by the Federal Motor Carrier Association.

What types of auto transport carriers are available?

Open carrier is the most affordable and commonly used option by dealers and consumers. Enclosed carriers provide an added protection for luxury and classic vehicles and for vehicles that have been painted within the last three months. We currently do not offer drive-away service.

How long does cross-country car shipping take?

Average delivery times range from 7–10 days depending on the distance, route, traffic, and weather. We’ll provide an estimated delivery window once your transport is scheduled and it’s best to ask the driver then what day he plans on delivering your vehicle since he has a better date to provide than we do.

How much does it cost to ship a car cross-country?

Pricing varies by distance, vehicle type, transport method, and season. To get an accurate estimate, request a free quote or call us at (702) 757-9940.

Can I pack personal items in my vehicle?

We recommend keeping your vehicle mostly empty. Some carriers allow up to 100 lbs in the trunk at your own risk. Personal items are not covered by insurance. Any personal items that are in the car cause excess weight for the carrier when they have to get their trucks weighed at each weight station he crosses. If his truck is over weight and he gets fined, they usually will charge you extra on delivery if the vehicle is packed with personal items.

Do I need to be present at pickup and delivery?

Yes. You or an authorized representative must be available to sign the Bill of Lading and inspect the vehicle at both pickup and delivery. We can also leave the vehicle with a friend, family or neighbor. In the event that you don’t have anyone on either end, our drivers can pickup or deliver the vehicle with no-one present. We recommend you have a safe location he can place your vehicle and a hiding place where he can leave the key.

Is my vehicle insured during transport?

Yes. All carriers we work with are fully, licensed, bonded and insured and provide full 100% cargo coverage for your vehicle during transit. Full details are available at booking.

How should I prepare my vehicle for transport?

  • Wash the vehicle for inspection
  • Remove personal items
  • Disable alarms
  • Keep gas tank at 1/4 full or less
  • Check battery and tire pressure
  • Take dated photos before pickup

What if my home is not accessible by truck?

No problem. We’ll arrange a nearby safe location, like a large parking lot or shopping center, if your home has tight streets or gated access.

What if my car is damaged in transit?

All damage must be noted on the Bill of Lading upon delivery. You only have 24 hours to make a claim, so please note the damages if any on the bill of lading when you sign the paperwork upon delivery. If the driver refuses to provide a Bill of Lading, please call us at 702-757-9940 and do not let him go until he provides one to you. They are required by law to provide you with a Bill of Lading (BOL) upon delivery. We will assist you in filing an insurance claim directly with the carriers insurance in the event of an unfortunate claim.

When should I schedule my shipment?

For best rates and availability, schedule your shipment 1–2 weeks in advance. We also accommodate last-minute moves — just contact us.

Can I track my car while it’s in transit?

No! You’ll receive the driver’s contact information and you are required to ask him on pickup when he/she expects delivery. We do not provide daily updates and you should ask your driver on pickup, when his expected delivery date will be. He will call and reach out to you anywhere from 3 hours to 24 hours in advance depending on how busy he is when he is ready to deliver. If you do not receive a call, it is because he is not ready to deliver.

Do you offer door-to-door shipping?

Yes, whenever possible. If your location isn’t accessible by truck, we’ll coordinate a nearby location that works for you.

What types of vehicles do you ship?

We ship all types of vehicles including sedans, trucks, SUVs, motorcycles, classic and exotic cars, and even inoperable vehicles. We also ship RV’s, Travel Trailers, ATV’s, Golf Carts, Boats, and anything with wheels.

Is shipping my car cross-country safe?

Yes. We only work with licensed, bonded, and insured carriers that meet strict safety and service standards. Claim rates in our industry are less than half of a percent for the thousands of vehicles we ship annually. Drivers do not want their insurance premiums to rise, so they take very good care of your vehicle.
